Selecting a roofing contractor in Toronto isn’t as easy as ordering a pizza. You’re essentially entering into a business deal, a business contract with another human being, and all the complications of negotiations along with the technicalities involved of the actual roofing. First and foremost, like anybody you meet for the first time, you’ll want to verify that the person is who and what he claims to be. Don’t be shy about asking for some proof to this effect; the contractor’s business address should be made quite obvious to you, either on a website on a Contact Us page, or somewhere prominently featured on a contact card. A permanent phone number should also be quite obvious and sort of in your face. Make sure to see copies or some sort of proof of his license, some proof that he’s been bonded, that he’s insured (his work, his workers, etc.); you want to see certificates of workers comp for instance. You want a good sense of the Toronto roofing company being credible, overall. You want to see and feel that he has a bunch of clients and customers; you might even ask for a professional reference. A warning sign might be if you’ve talked or met more than a few times, and haven’t discussed one thing about another customer. Contractors love to brag about their accomplishments. If you haven’t heard about another customer’s experience from this guy by the second or third time that you’ve met or talked, that’s a pretty strong warning right there, and you should be suspicious.
