The hottest topic in the news and on the minds of the majority of people in the United States is jobs.  With unemployment reaching over 10%, finding a new job or keeping the job you already have is tougher than ever before.  And with so many workers already unemployed and certainly more to come, where will all these people find jobs?

The first place most workers turn to after losing their job is the state employment office where they can apply for unemployment benefits.  If they are eligible, the jobless workers will receive a check every two weeks to assist with living expenses until they can find another job.  Unemployment benefits are not paid indefinitely and the recipients are required to keep looking for work while they are receiving their checks.  Displaced workers can receive assistance with their job search from the state employment office or turn to private employment agencies for help.

When employment agencies, both public and private, fail to help the  unemployed find jobs, many of them turn to the Internet for assistance with their job search.  There are many online resources available to assist them.  Need help writing a resume or cover letter?  There are websites that walk the user through the resume writing process step-by-step.  When the resume is complete, print copies to send to prospective employers.  Some resume writing websites allow the user to email their resume directly to the company they are applying to or post the resume on the Internet.

Many displaced workers take advantage of job search engines like Monster and CareerBuilders to help them find a new or better job.  These websites contain online tools that help job seekers find positions by performing searches according to job category, keyword, location, or company name.  Resumes can be posted on these websites for prospective employers to view.  Untold numbers of people seeking jobs, and employers looking for qualified candidates to fill jobs, use these invaluable sites successfully each year.

The classified section of the newspaper is the old tried and true method of finding a job.  Craigslist is the high tech version of the newspaper classifieds.  People looking for jobs can browse listings posted by employers seeking candidates to fill a wide variety of positions, or they can post their own qualifications for employers to view.  As with job search engines, thousands of people have found jobs by searching Craigslist.

Every day more people are facing unemployment as our economy continues to travel the rocky road to recovery.  The scarcity of jobs is extremely frustrating for the unemployed trying to find a job, dissatisfied workers looking for better jobs, and college graduates hoping to land their first job.  The best advice for all three of these groups is to have patience and determination.  If they continue to fill out applications, submit resumes, and use the resources available on the Internet, their perseverance will ultimately pay off.
