Maintaining the Locks and Hardware on Your Doors

This should only take you a minute or two and it has got to be done only a few times per year if even that. Sometimes all that you need to do give it a little bit of lubrication to keep all the parts moving smoothly. Back in the day this was the best choice as it did not collect as much dust or smell as strong as something similar to WD40. The graphite has a tendency to gunk up when you get moisture and dust in the lock.
Now this is still a passable option if you do not have access to a better lube, it is simply not ideal. 2 excellent products that are accepted by the major players like Medico and Assa locks are Super Lube Dri-Film and Lubrican Poxylube CP200.
These are aerosol bottles so you can spray it in but the spray quickly dries leaving the lubricator intact. Time Lock Inc doesn’t sell lubes so you’ll have to get a corner store that does.
An inexpensive and simple way to scrub dirt off your hardware is to mix some water, natural lemon juice, and some salt together. The lemon juice is a natural degreaser and the salt is a light abrasive. Use an old toothbrush to clean everything gently then quickly wash and dry everything you were given wet. Before you get lubricating the locks ensure you shake the can up well so that if anything settled in the bottle it’ll mix back together and If you think your lock, handle set or door hinges have been over lubricated or you believe that there might be unjustifiable dust or other waste then take the piece apart and clean it with an alcohol based electric contact cleaner. Let it dry or speed it up by drying with compressed air from a can. Beginning with the deadbolt, place the plastic spray tube in the keyhole and press down on the white nozzle using 2 or 3, one 2nd bursts of spray.
Wipe the face of the cylinder and permit the lubricator to penetrate the cylinder for ten seconds or so and insert the key. If it’s still a bit sticky then repeat the method only spraying a few times. After a second time if it still is having issues you’ll have more of an issue requiring you to take the lock apart and clean or replace it.
Now the key way is lubricated you can extend the bolt and spray a short burst on it.
