Important Components of Cover Letter Templates
28 Mar 2010 12:08 PM BusinessMost every job seeker has a resume, but not every job seeker has a cover letter. These go hand-in-hand and every job seeker should have both. The cover letter is often just as important, if not more important, than the resume. Hiring managers and recruiters often say that the cover letter seals the deal. By developing great cover letter templates, you will be more in a position of sealing that deal to land that dream job.The heading of the cover letter is an important and often overlooked piece of content. Some job seekers just go right into the body of the cover letter and totally forget about the heading. Don’t do that. Make sure you have the date, your name, address, and phone number on all of your cover letter templates. You will want to include a professional salutation as well. The first paragraph should contain the reason you are writing the letter. These reasons could be things like being referred to from friend or an acquaintance. If that is the case, make sure you make mention of that person, provided you received the ok to do so. If you are applying to a job posting, state in the cover letter templates where you learned of the job opening, including the date. It is a good idea in this first paragraph to mention that you are enthusiastic about the opportunity and that you feel your qualifications make you a good match. The middle paragraph should be used to showcase what you have to offer. If you are responding to a advertisement, make sure you demonstrate how your qualifications match up with the requirements of the position. Remember, in this paragraph to focus on what you can give to the employer, not the other way around. The concluding paragraph should reiterate your interest in the position. Because the line “references available by request” is not often used on resumes these days, you can add this line to your cover letter templates. Finally, you want to let the potential employer know how they can reach you, be it phone or email. Including both is the best idea so the employer can follow-up in his most convenient way. Some candidates are more aggressive and state a time that they will follow-up with the employer by phone to inquire about a possible meeting or interview.
